Pegasus |
The Pegasus was originally placed on the Country Club Plaza in 1954 and had a small, winged horse as the focal point. It was the work of sculptor Wheeler Williams who had also designed the Muse of the Missouri Fountain. In 1963, Pegasus was moved to a new location on West 47th Street near Broadway. When the fountain was moved, it was redesigned and now consists of a bronze bowl mounted atop the pedestal, equipped with a gas jet to produce flames. The water elements of the fountain were not changed and still consist of the circular arcing jets that spray toward the center of the pool. It enjoys a popularity resulting from its mixture of fire and water.
